China's 240 hour visa free transit (also known as "10 day visa free transit") is currently one of the most convenient ways for foreign tourists to enter the country. Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport is one of the officially announced 65 applicable ports, and upon arrival, one can embark on a journey through the mountains and cities.
Who can enjoy it
- Applicable nationality: A total of 55 countries (based on the official list), including the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, Ireland, Nordic countries, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Brunei, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Australia, New Zealand, as well as Russia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, etc.
- Core requirements: Hold a valid passport (valid for no less than 3 months) and a connecting ticket or proof of confirmed date and seat for travel to a third country or region.
- The term 'third country/region' includes Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, all of which are considered as' third regions'. For example, the United States → Chongqing → Hong Kong is eligible; Transit from the United States to Chongqing and then to the United States is not considered transit.
How is time calculated
Starting from 0:00 the day after entry, the maximum duration of stay is 240 hours (10 days). The scope of activities is limited to the 24 provincial-level regions (including Chongqing) that have already been opened, and cannot exceed.
Chongqing can play like this for 10 days
- Urban core (2-3 days): Monument to the people's Liberation, Hongya Cave, Liziba Light Rail Crossing, Yangtze River Cableway, Mountain City Trail, Huguang Guild Hall.
- World Heritage (1-2 days): Dazu Rock Carvings (Baoding Mountain+Beishan Mountain), about 1.5-2 hours' drive from the urban area.
- Natural Wonders (2 days): Wulong Tiansheng Sanqiao/Xiannv Mountain (approximately 1 hour by high-speed rail to Wulong Station).
- Two Rivers and Three Gorges (2-3 days): Night tour of the two rivers at Chaotianmen or take a Three Gorges cruise down the river.
Don't confuse the two policies
In addition to the 240 hour visa free transit, China also implements a unilateral 30 day visa free entry policy for citizens of approximately 48-54 countries (valid until December 31, 2026), which applies to situations where "China is the main destination" and does not require a third country connecting ticket. Please select the corresponding policy according to the nature of the itinerary.

- Confirm flight seats and dates in advance; Prepare your passport, connecting ticket, accommodation, and itinerary upon entry.
