Dazu Rock Carvings is the only UN World Cultural Heritage in Chongqing and the largest group of grottoes in southern China, as well as Dunhuang, Longmen and Yungang. Founded in the early Tang Dynasty and flourishing during the Song Dynasty, Baoding Mountain integrates Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism, and is known as the "three-dimensional Qingming Riverside Scene".
Ticket and Time
- Joint ticketabout 140 yuan (peak season from March to November)/120 yuan (off-season); A single ticket for Baodingshan is about 115 yuan, and for Beishan it is about 70 yuan.
- Half price for students and elderly people aged 60-64; Children under 6 years old or under 1.2 meters tall, and elderly people over 65 years old are exempt from the first admission ticket.
- Open from 9:00-18:00 (ticket checking stops at 16:30), subject to official announcement.
How to go
- Bus: Take the bus from Chenjiaping/Longtousi/Caiyuanba Bus Station in the city to Dazu (about 1.5-2 hours, 30-40 yuan), then take a taxi or bus 205 to Baodingshan.
- Self driving: It takes about 1 hour on the Chongqing Chengdu Expressway, and the parking fee in the scenic area is about 10 yuan per trip.
Must see
- Baoding Mountain Giant Buddha Bay: essence statues such as Thousand handed Avalokitesvara, Reclining Buddha, Six Way samsara, etc., take about 1.5 hours.
- Beishan Stone Carvings: Exquisite individual statues from the late Tang Dynasty to the Song Dynasty.
- It is suggested to see the Dazu Rock Carvings Museum first to understand the background, and then see the stone carvings to have more resonance.
Tips and Avoiding Pitfalls
- Joint ticket deep tour for about 4 hours, wearing comfortable shoes (Baoding Mountain is a circular trail).
- Avoid crowds early during peak season; Recognize the official official account/on-site ticket purchase, and reject scalpers.
- Baoding Mountain is a popular filming location for the Chongqing branch of the Spring Festival Gala.
